X-Cross

Okay, so for my first FF Friday, I'm gonna try and make an entry about one of my favorite movies of all time: X-Cross (2007). In short, this movie is a wild thrill ride, dark and intelligent while also managing to be memorably funny. To me, it's the perfect translation of the survival horror game concept into the non-interactive medium of cinema. And it's got lesbians, so what else could you really ask for?

Watch if you like:

Fast-paced horror that is more tense than it is scary
The friends to (implied) lovers trope
Games like Clock Tower or Fatal Frame
2000s horror aesthetics
Ridiculous fight sequences

Don't watch if you:

Prefer more serious horror
Don't enjoy movies that aren't explicit about queerness (it's obviously gay in my opinion, but they never kiss or anything like that)
Don't like movies that take cues from videogames
Prefer more realistic movies

Yuri Archive

Now that I've signed up for a free MEGA account, I've decided to use it to maintain a folder labelled the "Yuri Archive": a library of mp4 and srt files of sapphic cinema for anyone to watch or even download. This is just me trying to make more obscure movies more accessible to those who don't have the means to pirate them themselves, so I'd really appreciate it if even one person were to enjoy a movie I upload there. Also feel free to let me know what you thought of the selection! I might rotate it over time to allow for some variety as well. Wishing Stairs

Taking place at a Korean all-girls boarding school, this movie feels like a beautiful nightmare with significant parallels to both the story of the Giselle ballet, the lead role of which is an important plot point, and the Monkey’s Paw short story. In short, think of young sapphic love becoming something poisonous and terrifying.

Watch if you like:

Horror stories set in boarding schools
Ballet horror
Toxic yuri from beyond the grave
Stories that deal with the horrors of fatphobia and bullying
Tragic lesbian horror
Slower paced movies that say a lot through recurring motifs and themes

Don’t watch if you:

Want something 100% explicitly sapphic– though very heavily implied, there is no actual kissing or anything between the main duo
Prefer horror movies with lots of action, thrills, and jumpscares; though it has some sequences that I watched with my heart in my throat, it is no fast-paced slasher
Want a hopeful story about young love
Prefer movies that say things outright rather than implying them or using visual storytelling to convey their meaning

FF Friday

Just found out about the FF Friday blog. Wondrous news... now I can crosspost there as well to spread the sapphic awareness of weird media! In case you don't know what I'm talking about, here's the link: fffriday.dreamwidth.org/

So I have a new goal: update here at least once every week on Friday! Might update more than that, but I'll try to at least maintain that weekly schedule. What I'm hoping is that Fridays will be dedicated to sapphic media whereas other days of the week, I'll post about other things as well-- though that doesn't mean I won't post sapphics on other days too! This is just my first entry to kick off this new project :) basically, I'm just gonna write all sorts of stuff: movie reviews, book recommendations, personal silliness, mini-essays, and maybe even some original fiction. The main focus of this blog is going to be sapphic media though, so do keep that in mind in future if it's something you're interested in!

Hopefully this reaches the intended audience of sapphics who love cult and obscure media! <3
